In the absence of the injured Sachin Tendulkar, MI’s top order have struggled and loss of early wickets has hurt the side. On the other hand, MI’s bowlers have done a fabulous job, restricting the opponent batsmen to low totals in all three games played so far, with Munaf Patel the pick of the bowlers, and Malinga as aggressive as ever.
Tendulkar looks set to miss the game against RR, with his injured finger yet to cure completely, and the team’s main concern is selecting the right pair to open the innings, with both Rayudu and Suman unsuccessful to set the stands on fire. Levi, whose rapid knock against CSK helped MI to won that match but has failed to make an impact on since then.
Pollard versus Cooper will be an interesting competition between West Indian all-rounders, when MI takes on RR, with both players outstanding form with bat and ball equally.
RR will also consider Rahane and Chavan as an advantage when they visit Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday. Rahane fell two runs short of a century in his first game and with Dravid also in excellent form; the RR openers will look ahead to another successful game against MI.
Chavans slow left-arm spin, all along with Botha’s off-spin, has added to a fine bowling performance so far by RR, with Cooper, Trivedi and Amit Singh as a pacer standing up is being counted.
Right now, Rajasthan Royals are at the top of the table and they would want to continue their winning momentum at the Wankhede. On the other hand, MI the good circumstances as known their home advantage and their more penetrative bowling attack.
