Running in the right direction requires the ability to engage and align your people, customers, channels, partners to common goals and objectives. There has been a material increase in corporate Darwinism, and a rapid acceleration of threats and opportunities. There is a new reality to doing business in the 21st Century. The convergence of social, mobile, cloud, big data analytics, and business networks that connect employees, partners and customers have forced companies to be quick on their feet and adapt to industry forces on the turn of a dime — or risk extinction.”

- Velocity Wins in Today’s Fast-Changing Business World - Innovation Insights

Great use of parallax and a great article too....

Great use of parallax and a great article too. #daftpunk

If you want to know why nearly all companies suck at content marketing, these two charts should make it abundantly clear. Org charts? Committees? That is a good way to slow the process and lose in a world that moves at the speed of social media and memes. Oh, and then you have to add “legal review” to everything…

Less is more when it comes to creating and delivering great content marketing. Relevance and timeliness is everything. That is something you do not get out of meetings, committees and cross-functional groups.

To keep up, business learning also has to shift from an occasional event to a continuous, ongoing activity. Innovation itself is a good example. Until recently, it was all about products and services. Now, it’s increasingly focused on finding new ways to operate. But as Fortune Magazine points out, “business-model innovation is a competency that doesn’t exist in most companies. It never had to.””

- If MBAs are useless, we’re all in big trouble - Quartz

"This is critical to our strategy. We feel that content needs to extend into all sorts of business applications that you may want to use. As you look at the social enterprise and collaboration space more broadly, Jive is the clear leader. So the deeper that we can combine our products and services, it creates one unified experience for customers. And true to Tony being the master of the enterprise, they are in a very big number of large companies that we’re now starting to serve. This will only accelerate that. At a more meta-level, it represents a bigger trend. Five or 10 years ago you were forced to buy all your technology as a single large stack from an Oracle or an SAP. But now because of collaborations like this, and because of open APIs, you can mix and match the best IT products and services. That will fundamentally change the IT landscape. Startups and disruptors will be highly favored over established players.”

- Box’s Aaron Levie and Jive’s Tony Zingale Talk About Teaming Up - Arik Hesseldahl - News - AllThingsD

Perhaps a Chief Digital Officer is just the beginning. What we’re really talking about is someone who can bridge marketing, sales, service, and technology to create a frictionless path between customers and the business…at every step of the journey. Perhaps it’s time to think about escalating the role to someone who can own the entire customer lifecycle and bring the people within the organization together to do it. To break down walls, someone must be able to show how and why everyone can and should work together and also what’s in it for them. It would take someone who isn’t tied to any one function but instead someone who has everybody’s best interest inside and outside the organization to redefine the experience and how it’s formed and sustained.
